Pejero’s 1981 Toyota Starlet
Click to Play Audio:You won't see many of these on the street: Lito Pejoro's 1981 Toyota Starlet. Toyota made these little monsters from 1981 through 1983. It's rear-wheel drive, fast and light. Later cars moved to front-wheel drive and the Starlet eventually became the boring Tercel. That sick wide-body? Yeah, a Toyota option in Japan. Who knew the humble Tercel has such awesome roots? Toyota built this body style KP60, KP61, KP62 from 1969 till 1984. The Starlet did change from a Front Engine - Rear Drive layout to a Front Engine - Front Drive layout after 1984, However the Tercel did not replace the Starlet. The Starlet nameplate still lived on and is still regarded as one of the best "pocket-rockets". The Tercel was introduced in the USA in 1980. 1 year later, the Starlet was available for sale in the USA. Both were sold side by side.
