Trapster Helps You Avoid Tickets

Last week we published a story about EyeKiwi - a service that uses your 3G phone or Blackberry to alert you to known speed traps and traffic cameras. Now today we've learned about Trapster, a similar service that already covers much of North America.

Trapster describes their service like this: "When you see a trap, report it by pressing a button on your phone, or calling a toll free number. Other user's phones will alert them as they approach the trap. Trapster learns the credibility of traps based on how many users agree. It also learns the credibility of each user, over time."

The Trapster site also offers users a chance to "vote" on the validity of reported speed traps and cameras, participate in a forum, and earn "Karma" through their participation. The site is subscription-based, but membership is free. The application for the iPhone and other 3G phones is also free.
