DiMora Gets Funky With an Oldsmobile

DiMora Motorcar is a strange company.

Their claim to fame is that they sell the world's most expensive car, at somewhere around $2 million. Now, listen, I've got an old '78 Chevette sitting up on blocks out behind the barn, and I'll take $2.5 mill for that baby and not a penny less - so there, I just beat their price.

Seriously, maybe someone would have been impressed with a $2 million car back in 2005 - hell, they could have taken out a subprime mortgage on a mobile home to buy the DiMora. Does anyone still think that's  a good idea?

So, DiMora seems to be going into the netherworld of strange custom cars for those who still have more money than brains. Exhibit A is below...

DiMora Designs Transforms Oldsmobile Aurora into Custom One-off Car

Palm Springs, California – March 9, 2009 – Oldsmobile commercials used to brag that, "this is not your father's Oldsmobile." That tag line did not sell enough cars to keep Oldsmobile production going past April 2004. But it certainly describes a modified 2001 Olds Aurora, customized by DiMora Designs, a division of DiMora Motorcar, creators of the $2 million Natalia SLS 2 production vehicle.

The Aurora is now called the Scattare (meaning "jump" in Italian), and this automobile certainly jumps out at you anywhere it is driven.

I'm not sure a car that jumps out at you is entirely a good thing. Squirrels jump out at you, and look what happens to them!

The car started out as a stock Oldsmobile Aurora four-door sedan, but with some hand-crafted custom work, the Scattare is now a customized two-door with an extended trunk. Behind the driver is a second trunk lid, which rises to the vertical position. This was designed to accept a large high-definition television screen or any other audio/visual equipment the owner desires. For those who like a retro theme, a rumble seat could also be fitted.

There you go - hi-def TV or a rumble seat. On an Olds Aurora. What will they think of next?

Project Manager Jim Willis calls his unique three-tone custom paint job "Swiss cheese". The hand-painted, pin-striped orange design that separates the burgundy roof and hood from the pearl white body has holes scattered about in burgundy and white.

The Foose Nitrous chrome wheels are 20" in the rear and 18" in front. The hood was fitted with a functional aluminum air scoop and racing pin-hook lockdowns.

It's good that DiMora mainly markets to those in the entertainment and sports industries. Really.

At DiMora Designs, we take pride in thinking outside the box to create unique automobiles, yachts, motorcycles, aftermarket body kits, and even entertainment attractions. Whether the need is for a car with a particular capability or you want to carry a thematic style to its logical conclusion, we conceptualize, refine, and deliver remarkable one-off creations.

And believe me, we're all grateful that this is a one-off.

DiMora Designs recently began work on modifying another Olds Aurora, this one from 1996. Jim Willis says he doesn't plan to change it much, just little tweaks like converting this front-engine car into a mid-engine car. Yikes! Stay tuned...

The horror. The horror!

If you would like to turn heads wherever you drive, contact us to see if the Scattare is still available. If there is another automobile you would like us to modify in your unique way, or there is a design you would like built from the ground up, DiMora Designs is ready to help.

Yes, if you've got a couple million in loose change still knocking about after the stock market crash, they'll be happy to accept it in exchange for another 2001 Oldsmobile...

  1. I'm sure this writer never built a car or a toy model car in his life. Easy to write about someone ,but please this guy needs to get real. We all know he would just love to have this car,but he just didn't have the money. Show us all what you built and I'll give a shot at writing about it. Lets see what we can write about what you built. Your not even good at making fun of someone's work and you sure the hell never built a thing. Put up...... show all what you have built or please get out of business writing.
