2011 Ford Focus Breaks Cover
This week is the annual North American International Auto show, or "Detroit" as we say in the biz. To get things started, Ford broke cover on it's upcoming 2011 Ford Focus. Part of the new "One Ford" initiative -- making the car nearly identical for both US and European markets. The 2011 Focus is available in both hatch and sedan styles.
What we're really looking forward to is testing the new drivetrain coming with the 2011 Focus: a peppier 2.0 liter with variable cam timing mated to a dry-clutch, dual-clutch, 6-speed automatic. Overall, the new configuration features both an improvement of 20hp (155 horsepower and 145 lb-ft), as well as increased gas mileage: A win/win scenario.
For drivers, the new Focus has an all-new electric power-assisted steering system, redesigned rear multi-link suspension and "European driving dynamics." Torque-vectoring power transfer between the two front-driven wheels has been designed to reduce understeer -- critical for anyone that plans to upgrade the stock powerplant.
Other features include Ford SYNC connectivity system, push-button start and a more rigid structure and a fresh, distinctive interior. Standard bullet points for all new Fords these days.
All around, big improvements for this compact hatch. Can't wait to see what it can do in the real world. Better yet, bring on the Focus RS and we'll be really excited.

Will they ever offer it with AWD? That's what I'd buy.
I agree, an AWD model would be epic. But, unfortunately, is unlikely.
The Asian boom continues - more cars in China than the U.S. very soon! What does this do for the competition for finite world oil reserves? Drives prices up of course! Are Americans prepared for this? Ford needs to bring out a Diesel Hybrid to accommodate the higher fuel prices coming down the tubes soon! Carbon fiber bodies for lighter weight, plug-in features, and smaller cars in general are in order. China knows! They have nuclear/electric plant powered electric bullet train networks up and running to take the edge off of the oil bump! What has America done? Fords Hybrid is a noble effort and a successful one in the right direction, while GM(America) flounders with a vapor-ware Volt! Where is your Diesel Hybrid Super Car, a Volt killer for America, Ford? Thanks for not stealing out tax dollars to stay in business bye the way, and keep up your "A" game - we love it!
I agree that we need to find alternatives to oil. But keep in mine Americans gobble a quarter of the world's oil with only 5% of the world's population.
I think we need to reduce oil usage in general, not just for transport.
I have never understood how the wester world (the Americas/Europe) pays BIG money for fuel when the supposedly POOR China now has the most cars?
I would like to drive such a car.
the 2010 model definetely looks better without a doubt lol
