Toyota’s tiny Prius: the FT-CH concept
It's small, it's green and we gave viewers a sneak-peek of it in our DSTV Extra! back in December. It's the Toyota FT-CH dedicated hybrid concept. On January 11, the drapes were dropped by Jim Lentz at the 2010 North American International Auto Show in Detroit and we have to say, it's... erm, cute?
Designed at Toyota’s European Design and Development (ED²) center in Nice, France, the FT-CH is stubbier than the Prius but nearly the same height. So yes, very close to a Smart in stature, but it looks like it has a much sleeker nose and a more significant boot.
When it finally ships in final form, the FT-CH will be part of a new Prius lineup of products. But, where the current Prius has found success with young, trendy families, the FT-CH will be built for what Toyota identifies as the the young, hip "8-bit generation." (Ironically, it's unlikely that the generation born during the 80s, would be greatly influenced by the 80s -- they were too busy drooling on their Binkies to mess with Nintendo.)
We'd like to give more specs, but it seems that there aren't any available. Enjoy the photos.

Detroit has the chance to take the automotive industry green! The Toyota FT-CH, the Electric Fiat 500, the Ford Fusion Hybrid, and the Honda CR-Z hybrid are all great eco-friendly cars: let’s hope for more like them as the Auto Show continues.
