About
Driving Sports is an online publication and video series that strives to entertain, inform and engage. We'll occasionally link to other sites, but we're much more into creating exclusive content than following what the other guys are doing.
What started out as a print magazine, moved to the web in 2003 as an erratically-updated online publication. The print edition was re-launched as Subiesport Magazine, and that kept everyone very busy. In 2004 we started producing clips for DVD distribution and that was okay, but in 2005 we finally saw the light and made select shorts available online through Google Video, Sony Connect for PSP and YouTube.
In 2007 we tried something new, a weekly TV show for a local cable channel. That was a lot of work, especially since we also were still producing both Subiesport, as well as generating content for a Mazda print magazine. Noting that we had significantly more viewers online than we did on Cable, we opted to focus on internet-based videos and pulled the plug on the broadcast version of the show.
Early in 2008 we decided to try something new: a live webcast of the Susquehannock Trial Rally in Pennsylvania. Now, why would we fly a crew from Seattle to Pennsylvania to try a live video webcast of an event that is considered one of the hardest sports to cover in the United States, considering the terrain and spread of the event? We're just like that. It's especially crazy when there are two other large performance rally events that we could have covered in the Pacific Northwest if we had just waited until later in the year.
Taking what we learned from that experience we decided that what we really needed was to build a permanent studio with all the proper equipment and a very large pipe to the 'net. Just because you can webcast live with a setup as simple as a camera and a single notebook, that's doing it the easy way. And, it is so much less than what is possible. We like to try a little harder.
On January 7, 2009 we performed the first live, weekly version of Driving Sports TV. Each episode was produced using multiple cameras, a live switch and a custom-built streaming media solution.
Currently, you can catch Driving Sports TV every week on YouTube, iTunes, Mevio, Blip.tv, Streetfire and a number of other online locations. Driving Sports also has an application available through the Apple App Store, for iPhone and iPod Touch. The App features special bonus material in addition to streaming access to the weekly shows.
In addition to it's own series, Driving Sports TV has also provided content for other shows, including Destroyed in Seconds, Mobil1 The Grid, Whacked Out Sports and Touch the Future. Custom production clients include Rockstar Energy, Subaru of America and Mazda North America.
